Trent & Katie | two years married

There’s a type of shoot that isn’t all that common but should be. Well, should be in the sense that I LOVE to photograph it ;) An anniversary shoot! Of course, the wedding and engagement shoots are an obvious thing to document…but 1, 2, 3 years in…I mean, how sweet?! You don’t have to have kids to document who you are as a family. I wish Justin and I had more photos from the time “before kids.”

Trent emailed me a while back and asked if I’d be interested in heading to their town to photograph a session as a gift to Katie for their anniversary.  Not only did he want that to be her gift to her, he specifically wanted to document them in their home and current season of life…where they like to go and the area where they live now. If you know me…you’d know I’d be all over that! I love when couples want to personalize shoots to really have a record of how life is this moment in their lives.

Of course, we lucked out with it being as hot as possible ;) You all know how much I love heat…but they totally rocked it regardless. I swear my clients have super powers…I can assure you, I don’t resemble anything that would be “camera ready” during those hot shoots! It blows my mind every warm session how girls still have perfect hair and makeup by the end, haha!!

Justin and I headed to Covington, Kentucky (super cute town across the river from Cincinnati) for the session…here’s a little look at…well, some of it. You all know I have no control, so there is so much more ;)

A quick note on this one…this building is scheduled to be demolished…I’m so happy they wanted to include it.  I mean, what an amazing piece of art! Love that they have this to remember such a neat part of downtown before it’s gone.

I hope that made everyone want to schedule 1, 4, 7…”whatever” year anniversary shoot…and you know who to call ;)

Guys, it’s just a really fantastic present. I promise.

2016 Senior Team!!

025

What better time than July to finally post my 2016 Senior Team?! Haha!! So, as mentioned in the previous blog post…things got a little out of hand, so this is being reveled a bit later than planned…but even so, I am still so excited to share it! This was such a fun and awesome group we had and I hope they all love the photos as much as I do! Not only that, I hope it takes them all back to remember the fun day we had. I won’t lie…after watching Justin finish up the video, I was really kicking myself on my decision to go another route…only because it reminded me of how much fun it was!! However, I stand by it all for now, but maybe I’ll come up with something new and fun and different to have the best of both worlds!

The 2016 Senior Team members are:

Justice Clark, Elle Lamb, Cheyenne Leeth, Anthony McFadden, Maris Corzine, Nathaniel Lamb, Savannah Leeth, Madisyn Myers & Xena Stearos

I think everyone’s waited long enough…

the 2016 Senior Team!!

Now, of course, I can’t fit all of my favorite images in a 3 minute video…so here’s some more that I just had to share!! 001  002  003  004  005  006  007  008  009  010  011  012  013  014  015  016  017  018  019  020  021  022  023  024    026  027  028  029  030  031  032  033  034  035  036  037  038  039  040  041

And of course, nothing like this happens without the help of some amazing people! A big thank you to:

Hayley Ash – Hair Styling

Mary Moore – Makeup

Justin (my man) – filmed and edited the fantastic video :)

Highland Nature Sanctuary – this year we rented a house to get ready in…and it was beyond perfect!

a summer of 4 & 2 || part 1

IMG_8285Confession time: the amount of times I pick up my own camera and photograph my own children…it’s sad. Honestly, the amount of times I’ve attempted to shoot them as I do my own clients…I could count those on one hand, and still have fingers left. Don’t get my wrong, they are probably the most “iPhone documented” children to ever walk the face of the earth. We have pictures. Tons of pictures. Pictures from every single day of their life. The thing is, I really want to give them (and myself) those images that require me to think a little more and try a little harder. The ones I spend my life creating for other families.

I am making an attempt this summer to help me fix that. You see, each summer brings along a whole host of projects. Whether they are exciting, or boring, or frankly, just need to happen, summer is our time! With Justin being a teacher, and my schedule being as flexible as I want it to be (within reason), we think of summer with endless possibilities. Then August hits and we look at each other blankly while our fun day adventures got pushed aside, the bathroom is *still* demolished (from 6 years ago when I got *too* into an idea) and I still am not caught up on work. It flys, ya’ll. It flys by.

While we still have our big and small goals for the summer, today I decided on a project that I am going to try my hardest to stick to. I’ll be challenging myself to pick up my camera and focus for 20-30 mins a week on really documenting them. It could be as simple as them playing on the playset in the yard (see below), or something during a family day trip…whatever it is, I want to have a collection of images by summer’s end that shows my kids at 4 & 2. It may go beyond summer, who knows, but it’s a small goal to make a big change.

So here’s to projects, and intention and one heck of a fun summer. A summer of 4 & 2.

A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte | Wedding Photography

When I received an email from Brionne a month before her wedding with a few things she’d like make sure we photographed (the porch swing, trinkets on her bouquet, etc), there happened to be one request that jumped out at me. She said, “I really really really love the spin on Seurat’s A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. If there was any way we could do something similar, it would make my life.” I responded with, “it would make mine too.” Of course, we were being slightly hyperbolic, but still…it would rock.

So when a bride tells me something would “make her life”…you are pretty much guaranteed I will do anything I can to make it happen. And although I forgot the parasols at home, and it had poured just an hour before…we still made it happen. Thanks to a stashed umbrella in the car & the most amazing wedding party that didn’t mind sitting/laying on the ground. For that, I am grateful…and I am sure Brionne is as well.

Here’s my rendition to make it appear similar to pointillism…I am no Georges Seurat, but I think it will mean a bit more to Brionne than his version anyway.

(well, maybe not, but it’s still pretty fun ;) A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte

I’ve been back from the beach for a week, but I’ve been working so hard on getting all of our recent sessions done that I haven’t had a minute to pop on!

We had an amazing time and I am starting an official countdown for the next trip!! I haven’t even started going through the pictures because I am catching up on sessions…but here are two of my favorites that popped out while downloading :)

I’ll be back soon to share lots of great sessions!! We’ve been shooting daily for a couple weeks before vacation and since, so I’ve got lots to share :)
