Why family photos really are important. Meet the Givens Family.

029So often I hear people say, “we haven’t had family photos in 10 years” or something to that nature, it’s so common…and I get it. Life gets so busy. It does for me too. If it weren’t for a brilliant idea from my dear friend, I would actually probably be in the same boat (I shoot her family each year and she shoots mine). Kids pull you in so many different directions, whether they are toddlers or teenagers…it’s hard to manage another life in addition to your own…so adding extra things to the schedule can seem so daunting. Years pass and the last professional photo you have as a family together is the church directory photo with the kids in neon and teased bangs (oh wait…was that just us ;)

My point: Take the time.

This is my twin sister…she actually doesn’t have that issue because I am a rockin’ sister that updates her family photo each year for those cute Christmas cards…however, a real shoot…one that captures them as a family, where they live, how they interact…we’ve never done that.
Then, Father’s Day happened…the scariest day of my life. We were at my in laws house getting ready for lunch and I received a phone call, “something is wrong with Damon”, and my world stopped. We left the kids with Justin’s family and jumped in the car and headed straight for Dayton. You see, Damon had passed out while mowing and I wont go into detail of everything he went through or what all happened, I will say it was the worst few days of my life, I’ll also also say my sister and nephew are heroes. Absolute heroes.

You know those stories you hear about but never think they could happen to someone you love…well, it was happening to us and I wasn’t prepared. How could you be? I remember that early on while we were waiting for news in the ER, Whitney turned to me and asked for a family shoot when they got home.  You see, at this point…the doctors weren’t hinting that going home would necessarily be an option. We, as his family, knew it would be…and I told her I was already planning on that.

I pray no one has to have an experience like we had to really encourage you to update those photos…but please, remember, that while it might seem like an unnecessary event to add to the calendar, tangible memories that represent who you are and who your family is at this point in your life is such a precious gift to yourself and to your kids and to their future.

Meet Whitney, Damon & Henry…the most amazing, heroic people I know.

On another note, I am heading on vacation with my entire family — we have a LOT to celebrate — in the morning, so email and phone calls will be pretty rare for the next week…but I’ll be back August 11th and I’ll be in touch then :)

Now go and HUG YOUR FAMILIES!!

Emma | Chillicothe High School Senior 2016!

Loved my shoot with Emma a couple of weeks ago…she’s as sweet as she is cute and I had the best time chatting with her and her mom during our session. Here’s a handful of my favorites :)

The Coates Family…so much more than clients.

chillicothe ohio family photographyIf you’ve met me, you know I *love* my clients. Really, I fall in love with them. So many become so much more than just a client, they become my friends. Often I just feel like I connect with them and it means so much to me to keep up with them and what is going on in their lives. Every now and then I get to come along for the long haul. I have a group of clients friends that bring me along for so many big, important and small, but meaningful moments in their lives…I get goosebumps just thinking about it. I am finally working on a new website (you know, after 5 years), and I was explaining to Justin how I wanted to communicate how grateful I am to each and every person that books with me and allows me to come into their lives for a few hours to document them. To show them how amazingly beautiful they are…how the love they have for their kids shows on their faces when they look at them…how a groom looks at his bride in her dress for the very first time…how their sweet baby smiles so much bigger when they are looking at them. You guys, I want more than anything for you to know how amazing you are. I am so thankful that you allow me to do this day in and day out. Thank you.

This family has become one that I just described. I was the one that was blessed to photograph Jamie & Adam as they promised to spend their lives together. I was the one that was blessed to photograph them as a family of 3 when sweet Jocie turned 1. I was blessed to photograph them again when she was 2…and now, I am the one that was blessed to photograph them as a family of 4. Cyrus, little buddy, you’ve got the best little family and I am so thankful I get to watch you grow with them. To the Coates, I am forever grateful for not only your friendship, but your commitment to preserving these memories and documenting your family…thank you for choosing me.

2015 Senior Team Member : Payne // Chillicothe High School Senior – Part 1!

I have got to share all the sessions from my amazing 2015 team before they all go off to college!! So many fun photo shoots to post! Starting with Payne, this is just part 1 of his shoot…because, when you have a actual professional model as a senior…you make them do more than one shoot ;) This is another classic example of a “mini” shoot that I turned into a full one on the spot…I swear it happens less than what it seems, but you don’t have to believe me due to the last few “mini” sessions I’ve shared.

Now, I know what you are thinking…no way he’s a senior. Welp, he is. Plus, he’s the sweetest and crazy smart. Seriously, this guy not only received a full ride to his college, but from what I hear, he snagged around 40 scholarships (or something amazing like that)…I mean, come on. Payne, I’ve had the best time getting to know you and I am so excited to hear about your upcoming year at college!! You make me proud.

Sweet Harper

ohio outdoor family photography

I have SO much to share with you when it comes to this little cutie. I was fortunate enough to photograph Harper’s first year through the CDP baby plan…however, this session isn’t even included in that plan. I means the world to me that her parents were so happy with the baby plan that they wanted to go ahead and book another shoot to document her at 18 months! It’s so fun to watch kids grow in through my camera, so when I am invited back time and time again…it really makes it that much more special. Harper and I are buddies, that I know ;)

Another bonus to her seeing me every 3 months, she’s not camera shy…as you can see from the following! I’ll be sure to share her baby plan on here soon :)
