A new dog?!

So this is the situation. Yesterday during the storm, I had this momma dog wobble up on my porch. Usually I don’t think anything about it…we get a lot of stray dogs out here, or just neighbors dogs roaming around. Well, this dog was different from those…she was soo hungry! Of course I didn’t have any dog food laying around, so after about a half loaf of bread she decided this might not be such a bad place to stay during the storm (or so I thought).
She’s still here today. And yes, I just bought a giant bag of dog food.
I already know what you are thinking…”that is no way to get rid of a stray dog”. The thing is, I don’t mind if she stays :) I am such a dog person, so the fact that I don’t have one, well, it’s kind of sad. We are in a great area for a dog, but just didn’t want to add the extra expense at the time…but there is no way I will let a dog go hungry.
So that’s where we are. Problem…I need a name! And yes, I know what you are saying now, “you can’t name a stray”. Well, too bad. I’m gonna! She is the most precious dog, and to be completely unbiased…she is the most well behaved dog I have ever met. Not only did she just lay there and let mom pick off all 32 ticks while she started to bleed, she also knows commands…and get this, she went out of the yard, across the driveway, and to the other side of the creek to do her business! No, I am not kidding!
If you do happen to know who this dog belongs to, please, please let me know. More than anything I want her to be back with her family, she is obviously trained very well. However, if she was just dropped off (I have no idea how anyone could do that!) please at least let me know her name.
Thank you very much…and now, meet my new (maybe temporary) dog. Please leave all name suggestions in the comments section! I’ll be sure to let you know what we pick!

How about Forrestine? :)
Ciao bella! Hope you’re well – you and Justin look great!
I’m TRYING to get thru this semester and am super excited for a break…
Hmm, other news… I’M GETTING MARRIED! John and I are eloping to Paris this summer. (yes, France) Pretty excited. Maybe when school is out we can get together for lunch. Would love to catch up sometime!
Beautiful dog – she looks like an old soul – which is why I think a name like Forrestine suits. :)

Cassidy, that’s one gorgeous dog; so glad you are taking care of her! Looks like a lab and a great addition to a family(if indeed, she was dumped by her owner). As for a name, how about “Wanda”?

beautiful dog!! to me she looks like a Stella! good luck with her , sometimes our companions in life choose us , just go with it :-) i have 3 rabbits that came to me that way, their mom was a domesticated teacup dwarf that mated with a wild rabbit nested in my garden and abandoned the nest , i raised all three from before their eyes were open now i have three very small bunnies that look like miniature versions of wild cottontails they are as cute as can be

Ohmygosh Cassidy — a yellow lab!! they’re the best!! I don’t have any name suggestions, but to be sure she’s not someone’s beloved pet, you could take her to a local vet and they will scan her to see if she’s microchipped.

I think you should name the dog Zaida. It means Lucky in Arabic, and the dog seems pretty lucky to have wound up at your house. She could have gone to my house where my mom definitely wouldn’t have cared about it. Also I see that you found some 4-leaf clovers today so it seems a little fitting.

How about Clover for her name? Sometimes you have no choice in picking your pets, they seem to pick you. Just look at Ginger, I wouldn’t trade her for anything! Love Ya!

Maddie likes the name Sadie. We think she is a very pretty dog. Labs are the best!

I’m with Maddie. She looks like Sadie, Sadie, lovely lady to me. Sadie comes from the name Sarah and means “lady” or “princess” in Hebrew.
How’s the cat handling the competition?

He is soooo cute. I’ve been wanting a dog soooo badly and I even check the adaptable pet websites. I want a boxer, but I’m trying to hold off at least another year! I think dogs can bring some much joy into your life, especially if they are good like he is! I’m not good with dog names, maybe ‘Charley’. That seems like a good solid, name for him. Or ‘Mr. Big’? haha

How about naming the dog Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, ehrlichiosis, or babesiosis after the major diseases that ticks harbor here in the US. My gut feeling is that you may want to shorten of of those names to something more appropriate such as “Babe”, you know, just to make it easy to yell at her from the porch.
