Nilla Apple Crisp – Yum.

I made this desert for a church carry-in and had so many people ask for the recipe…and since I couldn’t think of what to post today, I thought I’d share it on here!  I also took a tip or two from the Pioneer Woman, and took pictures throughout the process!  So enjoy!

I found the recipe in the winter 2007 issue of Kraft Food & Family.

Nilla Apple Crisp

Prep: 20 mins, Total: 55 mins

img_4462You’ll need:

8 cups thinly sliced peeled Granny Smith apples (about 4 large/2 lb.) *i was making an extra batch…hence all the extra apples ;)

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar, divided

2 tsp. ground cinnamon, divided

1/3 cup old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats

1/4 cup cold margarine

25 Nilla Wafers, crushed (about 1 cup crumbs)

(1 1/2 cups thawed Cool Whip Whipped Topping – I can’t stand Cool Whip…so I leave this out!  but, ice cream is always good ;)

Ok, here we go!

Preheat the oven to 350F.  Now get to peeling & slicing those apples…it takes me a while.  img_4465

Then toss apples with 1/4 cup of the brown sugar & 1 tsp of the cinnamon – then spoon them into an 8 or 9 inch baking dish….like so:img_4481

Now combine oats, the remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar & 1 tsp cinnamon in a bowl. img_4484

Crush up the wafers…

Cut in margarine with pastry blender or two knives (*i just mix it in with my hands ;) until mixture resembles coarse crumbs…add the wafers, mix well.

Now just spread the topping over the apples…then stick it in the over for 30 to 35 mins or until apples are tender.

Now, scoop & eat…and enjoy, really, just enjoy. Yum. img_4510

Stopped by your site to see what you’ve been up to. This look lovely (no surprise there). You should consider being a food stylist on top of the photography. Hope life’s grand, miss you!
